Historical First Baptist Church is a Christ-centered congregation with a rich legacy of faith, service, and gospel outreach. Rooted in biblical doctrine and truth, we are committed to expository preaching, discipleship, and fulfilling the Great Commission. We prayerfully seek a Senior Pastor called by God to lead our church with wisdom, humility, and a servant’s heart.
The Senior Pastor serves as the spiritual leader of the congregation, providing pastoral care, leadership, and spiritual oversight for the church. This role involves preaching, teaching, counseling, and representing the church in the community while fostering a church environment rooted in faith, love, and service.
Primary Responsibilities
Preaching & Teaching
- Faithfully preach and teach the full counsel of God's Word with clarity, conviction, and pastoral care (2 Timothy 4:2). Prepare and deliver weekly sermons, Bible studies, and other teachings that are biblically sound, engaging, and relevant to the congregation.
- Provide sound doctrinal instruction that nurtures spiritual growth and deepens biblical understanding.
Spiritual Leadership & Shepherding
- Serve as the spiritual leader of the congregation, providing biblical counsel, encouragement, and oversight (1 Peter 5:2-3). Lead and support church staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative and spiritually uplifting environment. Work closely with the Church Board to develop and implement church programs and initiatives.
- A deep commitment to the Christian faith that manifests in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a lifestyle that reflects biblical principles and values." (1 Timothy 3:1-7).
Discipleship & Evangelism
- Encourage and oversee discipleship ministries that equip believers to grow in their faith (Matthew 28:19-20).
- Represent the church in community activities and outreach programs, promoting the church's mission and values while building relationships with community members and organizations.
Pastoral Care
- Provide pastoral counseling, guidance, and support to individuals and families in times of need (James 5:14-16).
- Pastoral Care: Provide sound spiritual guidance that nurtures spiritual growth and deepens biblical understanding. Counseling, and support to members of the congregation, including hospital visits, officiating weddings, funerals, and baptisms.
Church Leadership & Administration
- Work collaboratively with deacons, ministry leaders, and church staff to advance the mission of the church (Ephesians 4:11-13).
- Provide vision and oversight for church operations, ensuring ministries align with biblical principles.
Worship & Special Services
- Lead and oversee worship services, prayer meetings, and special church events.
- Foster a culture of reverent and Christ-centered worship.
Biblical Standards
- Divine Calling & Character: A clear calling to pastoral ministry, demonstrating the biblical qualifications of an elder (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9).
- Sound Doctrine: Strong theological foundation rooted in biblical authority and biblical doctrine.
- Shepherd’s Heart: A passion for discipling, mentoring, and equipping believers for ministry.
- Servant Leadership: A humble, Spirit-led leader who models Christlike service.
- Effective Communication: Ability to preach, teach, and engage with the congregation and community effectively.
- Commitment to Biblical Truth: Upholds a biblical view of marriage, sexuality, and family.
- Ministry Experience: Prior pastoral experience preferred but not required.
- Doctrinal Agreement: Full agreement with biblical beliefs, church mission, and statement of faith.
Qualifications:
- Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in theology divinity is preferred-But Not Required
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in pastoral leadership, preaching, teaching, and pastoral care.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds. Proficiency in organizational and administrative tasks.
- Character: A deep commitment to the Christian faith, demonstrated through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and a life that reflects biblical principles and values.
